Domain hosted away from my web host

Does this cause a problem for SE Spiders?

I am about to go with a web site hosting company which does not host domain names itself but gives the names of a few registrars which it recommends.

I will then buy a domain name with one of these domain registrars and ask them to change the nameservers over to my web host's.

This will means that the website url will be resolved as per usual whereby the domain name and file name are always displayed in the location bar.

My question is does any one know if this kind of practice, i.e. where the domain name is not hosted with the web site, affects the SE spider's ability to spider my web site?

Hosting doesn't have to be related a registrar, as long as your DNS points to the right place. Registering a domain and hosting are domain are two different things.

So, you can host your site somewhere else, you'll just update your domain registration to use whatever nameservers your host uses.

That sounds good. It's just that with all my previous web sites the domain name has been hosted with the web host. I suppose I wasn't thinking logically and was thinking that it would take more of an effort for the SE spider to resolve to the web host.

My understanding obviously lacks a bit!

Having said that I remember that one of my hosts registered a previous domain name with a registrar themselves (without me 'knowing'). Most of them probably do it!

Cheers.

Its actually good to keep them separate.
Then if you have problems with the host, you still control the name separately and can take your backup (you do backup, right ;)) and go to a different host, no problem.
