Hi all,

I have a domain that I really (really) need/want. I've been keeping an eye on this domain for around a year as I knew the company that had it has gone bust.

------------------------------------------

Current Whois details :

Renewal Date: 14-Apr-2005

Registration Status: Renewal required.

------------------------------------------

Can anyone tell me when I'll be able to purchase? I've tried today but it's still saying "Registered".

Thanks in advance :)

The expiration date in the whois information is not the actual date it will be available to register again.

Average around 75 days past the actual expiration date for it to be available. There's still the redemption stage, that allows the current owner time to renew the domain name, at a higher cost tho, and pending delete stage (5-6 days). You may want to consider a domain name backorder service such as:

pool.com (auction style)
snapnames.com (auction style)
godaddy.com (cheapest, but I don't know if it's as good as the other two. Although, I have been successful at all 3.)

If it's a worthwhile domain name, you can bet that others out there are already tracking it and are ready to grab it the millisecond it becomes available. That's all it takes.

It's not a domain that many people would be interested in, I think! Thanks for the advice :)

1. Cover all bases: Snap, Pool, Enom Club Drop, GoDaddy. GoD will cost you $19 but that included a year of registration.

2. Once the WhoIs goes to "Pending Delete" it usually is a matter of ~5 days to deletion.

3. Don't ever be certain you're the only one with an eye on the domain. There are lots of reasons people look to grab expiring domains, including the existance of IBL traffic. If there's a number of backlinks to the site count on there being competition for the domain.
