I registered my domain name about 6 years ago with internic.net. All the info they have for me is incorrect except my name so I'm having an impossible time switching the site to godaddy with my other domain names. I can't even contact them about the site, because they will only reply to an email address that no longer exists.

If I just back order by own domain name at godaddy.com, and let the other expire, I can get my domain name out of being registered directly through internic? Does anyone know how long internic waits to release a name once it's expired? There is absolutely no information on their site about this.

You need to call Internic. They will work it out for you. Email won't work well in these type of situations. We've called before and got the thing worked out in a matter of hours. Once it's worked out, set up one account for all of your domains via them and log in and check it from time to time.

Godaddy is no way the best way to get a lapsed domain name. If you have more than a handful of backlinks it will get grabbed and repurposed within miliseconds of coming back on to the market.

How do I stop that from happening? My site has tons of backlinks!

Oh, and my site is registered with network solutions, not directly through internic, I had the trouble with network solutions, so I was just confused there. Yikes, I'm so bad at this stuff, I don't know how I get by!

Oh nevermind, I guess I just don't let it expire, and take care of things with network solutions in the morning to make the switch.

I had this issue with a domain that I forgot was registered to my isp address from long, long ago. I moved and remembered after the old email was shut down. I can't remember my password for the backend - so, I had to fax a copy of my passport/id to the registrar to get them to "let me in".

Do not let it expire and try to backorder it -- Someone else will snatch it up!

On the topic of backordering... After 6 years I was finally able to aquire the domain to my actual real life name using backordering. I have no idea what I want to do with my actual name domain, but at last, I finally own myself.

Get on the phone to resolve your issue. They'll help.
