Custom Name Server?

Some host provides your own custom name server, such as ns1.theirdomain.com and ns2.theirdomain.com.

Is it possible to make your own and redirect it to them, such as

the original: ns1.theirdomain.com
Can I get : ns1.mydomain.com ? which links to ns1.theirdomain.coM?

You can redirect from site A to site B by means of 301 command (that have to be done by your host company)or from page A to page B by means of a javascript redirecting page command.
You can also "park" domain A on domain B without redirection:it will visible the "parked" one (domain A).

Yes, just make ns1.mydomain.com point to the IP address of their name server.

In order to use your private nameservers, such as ns1.mydomain.ext, you have to register it with you registrar first (the place where you registered domain name).
Otherwise I don't think you could use them unregistered.

Look at something like "register DNS" or "create DNS" , etc.

E.g. for Enom you have to go to the menu at the left, select 'domain names' and then 'register DNS'.
Use the tool in the first section of the page "Register a Nameserver Name" to create your nameserver.
Of course, the domain mydomain.ext must be in your account.

Is it necessary for the actual host to set something in my account before I can actually get a custom name server, or I can do it myself without them knowing?

ext not exe. I made it shortened for (any) extension, tld.
To simplify, you have to have registered name such as mydomain.com. Now at the same registrar you have to register nameservers, say DNS1.mydomain.com & DNS2.mydomain.com, with their apropriate IP addresses.

I think you should be able to point the names to the real nameservers' IP addresses without "them knowing" it.
