is it good to register more domains and forward them to the main domain? can it hurt the ranking?

Might be. Might not be. It depends.

That's about as much as can be said without a lot more detail.

main domain, ranked no.1 in Google. I've registered a couple of more domains, with the keyword in them.

On the non major domain, I've put a javascript, forwarding it to the main domain.

will it help or hurt? what would be the best way to do this?

If there's no duplicate content and there's simply an automatic js redirect, presumably for type-in searchers, I'm not aware of any penalty that would be applied to the beneficiary site. Of course, algos change . . .

No it does not help your ranking.

personally I would 301 permanent redirect all the other domain names to your main site, if any spider picks up the domain it will index a carbon copy of your main site

another other way is to build a site around these domain name but make sure you change the content from your main site otherwise you will pick up a penalty sooner rather than later
