Hi all,

I have a fairly succesful travel site, place specific, with a generic term for the domain name, the*****.vi. A very large corporation has owned the*****.com for 10 years and has just renewed it again. It is not being used, does not resolve and a look at the wayback machine shows that it was used for aff marketing in 2000 and was for sale in 98. It was tradmarked at one time but has since been abandoned.

I would like to contact this mega corp about buying the domain, but I am worried that since they have owned it for 10 years, they might try to lay claim to my version of the domain.

Any opinions or similiar experiences?

Thanks all

large corporation most likely will not sell it. They have plenty of money and even a few tens of $1000's will nto matter.

about claiming your name: they might do it. Right or wrong, legal or not, if they sue you, it will cost you a fortune regardless of the outcome.

Don't sweat contacting them. We own a bunch of .com country and city specific domain names and we have no claim to the .net .org, or country specific domains. We can not even get the new ones during the sunrise periods. Can't hurt to contact megacorp and find out what the price tag is.

But if they are a mega corp, then 'too much' is probably what they want.
