Is a domain transfer treated in the same way as an expired domain?

Does the changing of whois information on a .com domain cause google to drop it from their SERPS in the same way as an expired domain.

I have just purchased one and wonder whether I would be better to leave it registered to the seller. Obviously, I would need some kind of contract to compliment this route.

from what i know the trasnfer of an exisiting domain that had not expired should not affect its rankings

purchasing an expired domain will result in some effect, there has been much disucssion that google now penalizes these domains once it became an icann accredited registrar to stop spammer taking advantage of well ranked domains that for whatever reason had been let to expire...
