I've read many posts promoting ebay as the best place to sell a domain.

Well, I looked all through ebay today and blech! There is sooo much junk in there it's pathetic. Talk about your spammed boards.

Regarding Celebrity Names: It has been said here that celebrity names are a no-no. For those that feel that way, I suggest you check out ebay.

The best way to sell a domain to an end user is to put up a simple splash page indicating it's for sale and including a contact form.

Domains sell themselves if they're quality and priced right and the enduser knows it's up for sale.

You can also sell to resellers and traffic buyers at the major domain name forums: DNForum and DomainState. Traffic prices tend to be multiples of proven income. Reliable traffic stats or 'a test' is the norm for verification.

Non-traffic generator prices tend to be a small faction of (reasonably) expected end user prices.

Ebay has the most users of all, it would be the best bet.

problem with ebay is
1) 10 day auction window
2) many odd domains for sale (like examp1e.com with that 1 in there)
3) not setup well for domain name sales. buyers have to sort through deceptive listings (title: "great domainname example.net for sale" actual domainname: "prime-example.net"). ebay's format doesn't offer a succinct list of, say, all .com domains currently listed

Great idea! I wonder whether or not anyone has already suggested it to eBay.

They do have a .com category [computers.listings.ebay.com] that you can browse. But what they don't have is a field where the seller can enter the exact domain name that's for sale. And you have to weed through auctions for registration services and stuff.

I have seen domains get sold and all the back links disappear before, so try and keep a low profile, and never sell a domain on the back of Google or Yahoo

I see cheesy stuff on eBay:

title of auction:www.widget.com! dictionary name! make millions!

in body of description: "www.wigdet.com, a common mispelling of the popular word widget." usually followed by keyword stats for the correctly spelled word.

The other thing I notice is guys charging 10-20 dollars "transfer fee" for the domain then giving a free push within the same registrar.
