with a netscape WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get)
editor.
With a PR of 5 it kind of lays to rest the theory that old sites rank higher.

Site #1 is beautiful...talk about taking a walk down memory lane ;) To think of how much a modem must have cost back then...and what kind of a hassle it must have been to register a domain! Think of it this way. You would be one of the very first inhabitants on a new planet...pretty lonely.

This BBN stuff is creepy. I read an article on them recently (not knowing that it's the second oldest domain), and they are doing really, really creepy stuff. I mean, they can monitor an Arabian audio stream and automatically transcribe it to English (that's what the article was about). Admittedly (and sadly) this is very useful in todays crazy world. But if they can do that, WHAT ELSE can they do? Sometimes I think Orwell had a very, very limited imagination :-(

No I think Bill was still marketing to IBM. Freakin GUI was DOS shell. Notice Apple.com (1987?) That was ping pong with the dot travelling around the screen bouncing off the walls and you use a paddle with the up and down keys to block it. High Tec.

Thats when my older brother had a whole room full of boxes and boxes of computer punch cards written in COBALT. He would load like a 4 foot stack of these things into the computer just to play hangman. He's showing me the games he has, each game is like 4 boxes of cards. He made this one program that did nothing but make the computer play a symphony with the different operations wiz wiz bang bang whir whir.
BTW he's a systems engineer for Canadian Ministry of Environment today.
