buy .org or think of a new name?

I finally decided on a name and a theme for what I am doing on my website. The problem is that .com is taken. They display a logo but that is it. No pages. .net looks as if someone just bought it but hasn't built it yet. Do you think I should take the .org and go with it, or start from scratch. I'm also wondering if the owner of .com is the same as .net and would soon be looking for .org. Perhaps I could put a price tag on it. But my real desire is to develop this theme. I love it. I just wish I were one month quicker in my thinking. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

You answered your own question "Think of a new Name"

If you go with your .org you wiil (IMHO) regret it because many visitors who intend to visit your site and type the address in will end up going to the .com neighbour which may end up being a competitor.

Also .org is intended to be a non-profit making organisation.

In the big picture a domain name being specific is not so vital.

Remember the most successful selling site in the world (probably) is amazon.com and Amazon has absolutely nothing to do with Books.

I agree, stick with a .com. Look up the .com owner and the .net owner on whois and see if they match if you are wondering if it's the same person.

.org makes sense for non-profit or similar content, anything that would require an organization running the show or supporting a cause.

Sometimes it makes more sense to have fightingwhatever.org as opposed fightingwhatever.com.
