Problems Seeing Site

Greetings everyone!

I am having a very strange issue and I am hoping someone can give me some insight as to what is happening.

Here goes... I recently launched 2 websites. Using my bulkregister account, I updated my name servers to point at the proper locations on my host's server. My hosting company did its thing on their end, assigning new, unique IP addresses to each of the domains. One of the sites works perfectly but the other does not. The issue is that I cannot see this second site on my PC nor can I log in using ftp, but everywhere else users can see it.

I have cleared cache and cookies several times. When I ping and trace route the site it comes up good. On alertra.com the site checks out fine too. When I ping and tracert from my PC using DOS prompts it says site cannot be found. I have also tried 'ipconfig /flushdns' in my dos prompt, and added the ip address/domain name in my host file in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\. The kicker is that when I type in the ip address only the site comes up. When I use the ip address to ftp it works too.

Any ideas?

Just a guess but It sounds as if your problem may well be your internet service provider. Is it possible to dial in on a different isp account and try it then?

If it works then you know your provider is the cause of the problem. It could be a caching or proxy issue with them.

It sound like either that is correct (where your ISP's DNS servers have not included all of the correct info for the hard-to-reach domain) or perhaps there is a typo in your host's DNS routing instructions.

If you can get to the site without using the domain name, then there's a resolution issue, somewhere.

Re-check your host's DNS entries.

Also, you can try to change your own PC's network DNS server settings to point to a different pair of DNS machines, and see if that helps. If it does, then it's almost definitely a problem with your ISP's DNSs. If it makes no difference, then look to your host's DNS for the answer.

If both of these are true, that would suggest a problem with the Name Virtual Hosting configuration on the Web server.

How long has it been since you had the DNS settings changed? It can sometimes take up to 2 days for changes to propagate around the net. Until then, you will experience unreliable results trying to access the site by the domain name.

Thanks for the input everyone, I appreciate it. I contacted my ISP. They replaced several lines into my office. Now everything seems to be working correctly.
