The Domain Name that I am after has just expired 6th December 04

How long is it before I can get my hands on it?

Currently, Nominet tend to delete the domain from the registry 92 days after the expiry date.

Nominet don't always follow this "rule" - sometimes they will go over this period, but I have never seen them delete a domain name early.

What do you mean by 'expired' - co.uk go 'suspended' until they are released.

After the expiry date they are tagged as "renewal required" for a period of time.

Nominet try and contact the registrant for renewal and if they have no contact within 7 days of the renewal date, they send an invoice to the registrant via email and post.

If the fee is not received in 30 days (from date of invoice), the domain is suspended for 60 days.

After this, the domain name will be cancelled and available for re-registration.

IMO, it gives way too much leeway to the domain registrant. They know for 2 years when the domain needs to be renew and not having it done on or before the renewal date is just sloppy.
