Which is better, a name the is spelled correctly on a non .com domain or a name that is sligtly mis-spelled on a .com domain?

For example:

widgetworks.net/.org/.cc/.etc vs. widgetwurx.com

For me, a non .com that's spelled correctly. If you have the money to burn to register
all those mispellings, be my guest. ;)

Is the mis spelled word ever going to be part of a key phrase that a human would search for? If so, spell it right, if not...

I am always in favour of .com domains, so as long as the mispelled words are easy to remember, you shouldn't have much trouble. tats mi too sents :)

If the misspelling looks deliberate, for branding purposes, then it might be tolerable. Otherwise, as a visitor to your site, I'd hate it.

If an alternative domain extension were at all appropriate, e.g. a .net for a techy site, or a .info for an info site, I'd say you're much better off getting the spelling right and going for one of them.

Just my preferences. Of course, I might not be in your target audience. If the site's about, e.g., ringtones 4 ur fone, then misspell away...
