Firstly, i hope one day to be able to give to webmasterworld what i am getting out of it, for the moment , I learn.
I have just agreed a price for a domain name and I want to transfer it to my name. I contacted the registrar of the domain and they told me that they would send out a form to me to complete in writing and send back in. A similar document would be sent to the current owner who had to send it in along with a copy of photo id . Then the transfer would be complete. This seems odd to me , and potentially insecure, both for me and any owner who uses register.com ( who incidentally cant lock domains ). Its also slow.
Potential course of action.
When i asked was it possible for a domain owner to transfer the registration to another domain registrar , they outlined a process i would be vaguely familiar with .. sending the admin contact an email asking if he accepted the transfer. This seems more secure and faster.
I would set up an acount for the current owner with my registrar. Get him to make a registrar change request to this registrar. My registrar then has a simple process for making a transfer internally amongst its clients.
I trust the person i am dealing with for the acquisition more than the registrar in this instance.
Would anybody have any advice on this matter or thoughts on my course of action?
