Hi Guys,

A quick question that i hope you can help with.

When choosing a domain name how important is it to your search engine ranking?, For example:

Is www.keyword1-keyword2.com better than or any different to www.keyword1keyword2.com or is does the domain name have no relevance and the best option would be www.companyname.com?

Thanks

If it's a long term website for a company, then go with companyname.com. Short, sweet, easy to remember.

Thanks for the quick reply! I agree that www.companyname.com would be eaisier to remember and sound more professional.

But does that mean having a keyword in the url has no effect whatsoever on SE ranking?

I would go for the companyname also.
I think that keyword1-keyword2 and keyword1keyword2 does not make much difference for SE.

But keyworlds in the URL are important, try to give pertinent name to your directory files such as

www.companyname.com/keyword1/
www.companyname.com/keyword2/

I would go for the companyname.com too

It would be very easy to penalise keyword1-keyword2.com domains at any time in the future if they are skewing the search ;-)

I would also register

companyname.info
companyname.net
companyname.biz

+ the Country code ccTLD
companyname.co.uk if your in the UK or
companyname.de if your in Germany etc.

Can save a lot of hassle later.
