I have a site with a link to a Server on my network. I cannot click that link and see the page as I am inside the network.
What happens if I buy a domain name that points to the IP address on my Server? Am I allowed to do that? If the link is pointed to the domain name, will that then act as a workaround so I can see the page on my Server?

If the server is on your network, it is probably behind a firewall which is blocking any access. Often times in situations like this, your open a port on the firewall that allows outside traffic to access the web server (usually configured in the router/firewall as the DMZ).

As I understand it, the issue arises from the fact that I am inside the network. an IP address of 123.123.123.123 from a web surfers point of view is different to someone inside the network. To access my Server, I use a different IP address to a web surfer.
