2 years ago I had some appraisals done with different "appraisars'. They were on the very high side.
I was looking now into GOOGLE for new services - just to find that some of the services I used went out of business.
When I check the offers I recognize most of the samples shown at the website date from 2001.
Is there anything new giving a substantial appraisal for a moderate price?
I also bought cheap "software" to appraise - not worth anything. I found an offer for 9.95 from another company recently. Any experiences?

In my opinion, getting a domain appraised is pointless. Even "real world" appraisals of goods don't have much to do with their actual value, or the amount that you could sell them for. They are good only for insurance.
So...though there are factors that make a domain more or less valuable, it really is worth whatever somebody else wants to pay for it.
I guess if you were going to insure your domains (against possible theft or something), it might make sense to have them appraised.
my 2 cents,

Some domain name forums allow you to post your domain and ask for input about value. If senior members speak up it's at least some guidance. Appraisals are mostly useless.

What's the purpose of the appraisal? If you are looking to sell the domains, it's useless.

I've paid $5,000 for a domain valued at $500 by those services and I've paid $2,000 for domains valued at $10,000+ by those services because that's what those domain names were worth to what we were doing.

The domain appraisal services really have very little knowledge of various niches that really determine value of domains. Most of the valuations I've seen in the appraisal forums value domains based on type in traffic and whether they are in the gambling/porn industry. Other than that, they typically spin their wheels.
