Quick question...

If, for example, xyz.com was taken, am I well within my rights to use xyz.net? (or am I infringing?)

How about thexyz.com.....is that acceptable?

Thanks!

Hello Procyon:

I went to register my own name as www.[myname].com, and learned that someone had already done that. So I registered [myname].net.

Neither site is really commercial, and there have never been any repercussions at all.

IF my name was Coca C**a, it would be an entirely different matter of course. Best - Larry

Hi Larry:

Thanks for the response!

The site I'm considering will be of a commercial nature.

Next Question: Will you be more or less competing with the original site? Trouble could easily loom up. -LH

Procyon, if xyz is a trademark - you cannot do it. Actually you can, but te owner of TM will be able to force you present the domain to him.

Larryhat, it depends. If you are the owner of blah-blah-blah.net returning customers will make mistakes and they will type blah-blah-blah.com. It does not work in opposit direction :) So if .com is your competitor you will not be happy

Hello Tsuren:

Point well taken. In my particular case, there is no competition. My site is [myname].net and the other guy [myname=hisname].com has the same name!

If somebody stumbles on the other site, its not a problem. We have different interests. Thanks - Larry
