Now, after gathering some 500 of 'em, WHAT DO I DO WITH THEM? I hardly have the time to keep up with my websites (running 21 right now with freelance help).
Any neat hint as of how and what you do most efficiently with a growing pool?
A bit of research often pays dividends.
As a side note, the .com I really wanted was registered for 12 months in November last year. It hasn't been used since. The .net is available, but I think I'll wait 'til November to see if anything happens with the domain!
Better you should devote your time, attention and money to a good woman. Domains will never love you back.
Then again, unlike the opposite sex, domains don't have many issues: No monthly hormonal outbreaks, no bouts of 'you don't understand me', domains never say 'not tonight dear', domains don't criticize your favoriate old sweatshirt . . . hmmmmmmmm, thinking ...
Okay. I think I've got the answer to the dilema about what to do.
Leave the gun.
Take the canolis.
What I don't have is what it takes to get of my butt to make it happen... I've now offered bounties to any of my friends who can kick me into motion to finish any of my pending projects... What is wrong with me?

This is my view:
A nice keyword rich domain can always help with seo, ie. keyword.com or keyword-keyword.com, when it gets to keyword-keyword-keyword.com it can be used for seo, but sounds a little spammy.
In my opinion, getting the domain to the top is the hardest part, and you could get any domain to the top with the right strategy.
Nice domains or usefull when you get the domain to the top and then you want to sell the entity. Then you have branding + traffic = good money
I bought another one for 5uk pounds and sold that for 12,750uk pounds - (during the dotcom boom) but the company went bust and didnt change the registrant details to them before they did - I now own the domain still - they only had it for 1yr!
I let drop a lot of domains I registered in '98 and renewed repeatedly until 2002, but then let them drop (because it wasnt really on the theme of what I did then). Unfortunately, they'd be ideal right now for my current business, doh :/
These days I have a few hundred .com's and .co.uk's registered in the last 6 months, mainly related to my core business - I got someone to write me a script that tells me how many typeins each domain has sent to my website which allows me to decide which to renew or not :)
For all those addicts out there, sorry, but you will probably get lucky one day, hang in there :/
What is the certainty of getting the domain if you've successfully pre-registered? Anyone know?
None - All pre-registering does is allows the company you have pre-registered with to apply to the registry on your behalf. There maybe a hundred other registrars also requesting your name if it is popular.
AND thats assuming the company offering pre-registration is honourable.
ALSO it is likely Trademark holders will take precendent over the general public.
For one, when I type in a site ending in .com, if it doesnt work I probably try the country code instead or try .net - After that, it's off to Google for me.
I'm not sure how many people type .com,etc and then go 'hmm, maybe its .info!' I think personally .info only works on the basis that it was designed for - information on something - Now, you could argue that someone would type companyname.info but really we all know thats an unrealistic place to start looking for a company. I think of .info for tourist type stuff, like information on a place I want to visit, etc.
I think a sign of a failed tld is companies giving 25 (not even 1 or 5, but -25-) free away. I don't think I have ever seen a .info in any advertising campaign in the UK (maybe in US its different - I somehow doubt it though) - It's proving just as popular as .biz (which I associate with spammers and makemoneyfast type people to be honest .biz has some sort of cheap ring to it)
Just my two pence (cents/etc!)
