Client has 3 different domains, one of which I've advised him to use for all SEO, links, etc. So I'm going to do a 301 redirect from the other 2 domains to the third domain, to keep those spiders happy.

Fine so far, but now the client says he wants to keep the email address (with old domain) because its his official business name, and appears on all stationery, etc.

Seems fair enough, but how is this going to work when the 301 redirects kick in? Will it render the old email address invalid, or will it make no difference?

I cant see how he could keep it cos the config for the email address is done on the server of the old domain and you are redirecting off that server to another...

Or am I wrong?

Email and websites are completely seperate things. As long as he still owns the old domain, he can carry on using it for his email, with all old websites pointing to the new domain.

This touches on one of my pet peeves - when radio or tv programs say

email us at www.example.com/program-name
It just spreads confusion, with people thinking that www IS the internet.
