We are searching to determine the value of certain domains; i.e. rent, com for example. Does anyone know how to get the value of a domain name?

take it rent.com is an example?

the main point here, is what purpose the valuation is for, as I can see a # of different options:

1, instant sale vale to a domain trader
2, possible sale value to an end user, if you have interested parties in mind.
3, value based on a long term lease of the domain.

see what i mean, so many options when it comes to domains.

personally I have started valuing my domains at what I pay for them, and if I make a profit, well thats a Bonus.

any other valuation model simply drove me mad

IMO - I would consider the marketability of the domain name as the primary determinant of it's value:

- how common of a word is it?
- how often used with respective to industry?
- number of characters?
- phone test?

We are currently creating an espresso site; we were shopping for a domain name: espresso, com: it was being sold for 75K USD.

our first thought was: OUCH! we obviously thought of something else;i wonder how they came up with that figure?

I'm hoping it's just a matter of time until we see a domain-name-evaluator,com site.

The true valuation of a name is what the owner will sell it for.No more and no less.
If espresso.com owner wants $75000 then thats its value.
If thats not value to you then you have to move on and find a name that you value higher than the owner does.

Traffic first ..does the name have natural type-in traffic? is that traffic targeted or general traffic?

lots a targeted traffic means less or no advertising you will need.. think of the thosands , tens of hundreds of thosands , millions of advertising you would never have to pay for if you owned say cars.com for example ..
That's what makes a word like cars.com worth a few million

Does the name represent a product or service or is it just a common dictionary word?

Is it a branded name or a common searchable keyword?

Sentiental values?

Copyright values,

comapny name?

How much are similiar names with similiar variables selling for?

Yes , of course it is worth what you or your company is willing to pay..you are just searching to make sure you are in the right neighborhood ..

Good Luck..

I am the owner of a .com that I just found out is to become a Broadway musical. I have been given an offer which was very low (IMHO). I am not really interested in selling, unless it is an offer I can't refuse. Is it possible to lease the domain name?

In case you didn't notice I commented somewhat at length about domain valuations in this thread:

The true valuation of a name is what the owner will sell it for.No more and no less.

True value is the one that a willing and able buyer and willing and able seller agree to.

I could very well say that I have a US$2,000,000 house and a net worth on the millions, but the truth is that I would be lucky to get $250,000 for my house.
