all .nets or mix and match with .com and .net

I am about to buy about 10 fairly obscure domains, but as you know most domains that make any sense are now taken... My question is would it be better to purchase all ".net" domains, or mix and match with the availiable ".com" domains that are available.

Any constructive reasoning is welcome,

I would buy both the .com and .net versions if you can before someone else does.

Anytime that you can pick up a .com that works for you, do it. It all depends on what you'r planning to do of course. If you're creating a few sister sites, then it would be bad to mix and match. If you're looking to spam then it doesn't matter. If youo're looking to set up a few different independant sites, then it doesn't matter either since you'll be marketing them seperately. These are just opinions of course.

if you are going for branding, definitely try to get the .com - a percentage of your type in traffic will always be sent to your competitor's .com site if you have a .net - on the other hand if you are simply trying to get ranking in SEs and one-time visitors (ie an affiliate feeder site) then the domain name extension doesn't matter in the least.

I am trying to set up sister sites really, all linking back to one main portal.

All have .nets availiable, but a few have .coms

I think I will opt for the few .coms I can find and the other .nets... and if it looks like it is going ok buy the related .net for the .coms.

Unfortunately the main portal is going to be a .net (Dam those spam buyers)...
