www.name.com & name.com different!?

How can they be 2 completly different companies & websites

Hi all,

How can somebody register www.name.com and somebody else, from a different country and a different company register the name.com? The only difference being the www. being in front or not.

www.name.com is a subdomain of name.com.

They can be two different websites, that may look like they have two different owners (from site contents), but you can't have two different people as the registered owners of the domain name (name.com).

It's really strange because one site sells mobile phones in the UK and the other is a French consulting company!
I think I'm going to contact them direct to find out who they are.
