buying expired domains

is PR worth anything?

I've checked some domains I was interested in, and found that they may have PR 2 or 3, but no/just 1 or 2 inbound links (as reported by alexa or google).

Is it worth buying such domains? If immediately point the domain back to my own site which has related content, will that help preserve it?

One has to wonder, on recently expired domains, how can a domain have pr2 or 3 and no or very few inbounds?

I'd appreciate some seasoned professional's experience on this.

Thanks for the link. I read all of the messages. but I also happened to notice that the very last one in that thread reported that the PR was still upholding.

that particular thread was dated of last year. I just need some confirmation from experienced players in the industry that what was valid almost a year ago still is?

Yeah, I would say you're late to the game. It wasn't really worth picking up PR 2-3 anyways. Now a rogue 8 that was like gold.

An associate of mine just saw two names he had snapped have their PR dropped.

I bought an expired domain with 5 PR and listed in DMOZ. When I got it, DMOZ droped it, but the domain retained a PR 3.

There are many services online that offer expiring domain alerts. Do a search, research the one that best suits your needs and sign up.

To find your answer grab an expiring list of good domains with PR today.
Then have a look at them in a few days.

I think you'll find the PR is 0 for 99% of them.

Google is doing a good job with these now.
