Sorry if this has already been covered, but could not find it with a search.

Transferring names with Godaddy.

I am going to incorporate my internet activities some time later this year. My domains are currently held under my personal name and registered with Godaddy. What would be the best way to do the transfer of ownership to the new entity?

Should I open a new Godaddy account under the corporate name?

If so what next?

Why? Is there a reason for "the corporation" to own the domains? Why don't you own them and lease/rent them to the corporation? Is there any reason to keep them apart from the corporation? Will there be other equity holders in the corporation? Do you want "them" to have a share in the domains?

I'm not answering the questions. I'm just suggesting your analysis might expand. You might talk to your accountant about any benefits of keeping them apart, etc. What if the corporation - but not you - runs into trouble. The corporate assets get taken, liened, etc.

Lot's of possibilities, including a domain name holding company if it's a nice collection.

Kick back, think, consult with local counsel and tax advisor if the collection has value as a stand alone asset.

Thanks for the advice, actually I already went over the tax implications, and I think I got them covered with the type of passthrough entity I am picking.

The reason is mostly one of liability and formalizing a partnership by giving someone an equity stake.

I figured out how to do the transfer, it just took me a while to get to it using Godaddy's FAQ system.

I was missing a drop down menu :)

No wonder their FAQ seemed so incomplete.

My personal experience is that Tucows OpenSRS is the best for new domains, transfers as well as renewal.

I registered 2 domains at the same time, one with nsi and another with opensrs and hosted both at the same host.

In 17hrs domain registered with tucows was resolving and other was not.
