Registering a .fr domain

I need advice on how to register a .fr domain. Is it possible for a UK company to do this for expansion into the French market?

its an absolute nightmare mate, real hard work with LOTS of red tape, and local presence required.

use any alternative means if possible, as it will be a long process and quite expensive
