Letting premium domain names drop

It is hard to believe, but it happens all the time

I am constantly amazed at the domain names that companies/individuals let expire.

I know there are many reasons which include: the company no longer exists, company forgot they owned the domain, individual forgets they own the domain or both company and individual have grown apathetic towards domains, etc.

Anyhow, the bidding for x x x pics .com is alread up to $23,500 after just a few hours of bidding (over 2 days left)....

Someone should be fired or slapped.

Yeah, people do let some great names drop. I think just about all of mine were owned by someone previously and dropped, even the ones I got back in 1996.

All I can say is, thank goodness these people do or I wouldn't have the ones I do have. Of course these days there are hundreds of people bidding them up so I don't get them any more usually, it was much nicer when I could check by hand every day or so and register them by hand later.

"Someone should be fired or slapped"

pool comes to mind lol..

some of these bids are clear shill bids , like a stock pump and dump scheme ..

and some of these names are genuine traffic magnets well worth the bids..

the reasearch is fairly basic..

The people that grab 98% of the top names are not you and I ..

WLS (waiting list service) will change that . you will be given a real opportunity to grab one of these great drops for under $100 ..in exchange verisign expands their monopoly

I'm not convinced WLS will help. I was originally in favor of it, thinking that all the various people getting sweet deals with registrars giving them preferential treatment on picking up drops was unfair. With the change to WLS it's probably that the same people dominating now will just have an easier way to dominate in the future.

Dan , If you agree that 98% of TOP names are grabbed by a few select individuals and pool types ..then you surely must see that under WLS if all we gain is access to even 10% more of the top names then WLS will be a huge benefit over what we have today.

I agree it will not be a perfect sytem by any stetch of the imagination.. but I belive the "acess" factor will increas at least 5 fold to the better names.

There simply isnt any way that the select few will be able to cover all those WLS slots IMO

The big boys have the money, connections and savvy to get what they want. I used to think WLS would help some, but now I'm more cynical. I guess we'll see how it turns out when it's here.

"Someone should be fired or slapped."

This was one of John Z's names.

He is currently in jail for redirecting his names to porn.

I am unsure why he isn't renewing them though.

Tonnes of real nice ones are dropping!
