On buying a domain

recommendations for cheap reliable company

Hi all
I've been using a free domain for some time now and am about to buy my own domain. I'm quite happy with my free host's services and since they've also got paid hosting, I plan to continue using them. My problem is that buying a domain from them costs about 25 USD, but I've been told that there are other companies who sell domain names for as low as 10 USD/year. What I plan to do is buy my domain from another company and then use my present host to host it (which is apparently possible?)

My question is can anyone recommend a company that sells cheap domains and is also reliable? Like I heard that Godaddy's has had some problems, so I don't think I'd buy one from them. Any recommendations? Thanks a lot.

Are you still in the process of making a decision? If so, please reply and I can provide you with some recommendations.

There is nothing wrong with GoDaddy for registering a few names - in fact, they provide great service at a very nominal fee. From what I understand, they have had problems with the "search-friendliness" of the webhosting platform.

i've used godaddy for buying a few domain names and have no complaints - they're quick and cheap.

1and1 had free hosting and a free $25 coupon for adwords a while back. I don't know if they still have it.

I would check with your free host, that they allow you to register domains from other hosts. Usually they charge a extra for that!

Please be aware that you can buy a domain name from someone other than your host, but your host can turn around and charge you for setting it up.
My host charges the $25, but in that is all the setup of pointing the domain to the host server, etc.
If I go buy a domain, I can get it cheaper, but then I'd have to pay him for the service of setup, etc. so it would cost about the same.
Just as easy in that case to pay the 25 and let him handle it. He's been honest so I have no fear there.

Hi. Thanks a lot for the info. I've asked my host and they're not charging anything for set-up fees even if I buy a domain from another company. good, eh? Thanks again, guys.

Make sure you read the fine print before you choose a company. It may be cheap priced but you may also not be the actual owner of the domain so if you were to decide to transfer it to a different registrar, they would not let you and they can also take over the domain in certain circumstances.

I'd suggest spending the fee and becoming a sub-registrar yourself so you no longer have to worry. Bulkregister is a good company for that. Otherwise, just be careful and research the company you choose carefully. :)

Some fabulous deals here and domain names ($15.99) can be transferred to another provider. They also have great prices for unique visitors which I have also used successfully.

I registered my name with them and it was easy, quick and no problems in transferring the name over to my provider.

Good luck! ebusiness.forqualityhosting.com
