Am spain based but wish to get other domains apart from .es

an ideas for getting euro wide domains?

How would i get these domains being based in Spain.

You could try one or more of the following:
- the registrant should be in Spain
- host the site in Spain (make shure your hosting ISP actually has his servers in Spain if this is what you want to try)
- write the site in Spanish

go to speednames.com for all your international domains, failing that go the individual registries, such as www.nic.uk and www.nic.de

One advice, don't go to Speednames. They're really ripping you off. And when you try to move your domains, it's almost impossible.

Most of the standard European domains you can get cheaper. We do...;)

Also based in Spain, doesn't limit your option. Most European countries don't have very much restrictions, or they're lifted in the near future, like with the French domain

I have always thought that to get a .fr domain i need to be france based, and hosted in france.

Is this correct?

I will give you the specs per TLD:

.de : admin contact address in Germany needed. Some providers can provide this for you if you don't have an address.
.fr : you need to have a company based in France (with APE nr.) However on the 11th of may things will change. But you allways need to have an address in France.
.uk : it's co.uk (most regular one). There are no restrictions for you
.nl : you need a Dutch address for admin contact. Owner can be based abroad. Some providers can provide this for you if you don't have an address.
.pt : .com.pt has no restrictions. .pt has all known restrictions (company, name of company and domainname needs to be identical etc.)
.it : no restrictions if you're located in the EU

I read it as: how can I make these sites show up in Google as 'Spanish sites'. Took a while before I noticed this is the Domain forum, somehow got a New Discussion notice... (originating from the European SE forum I think...)

I'll second what herlaar2303 has said about possibilities to register those domains. There are some registrars who offer those services.

My take: Local ccTLD plus local hosting is the best you can do. But it's true that local ccTLD is more important.

Why the local hosting? That makes it more expensive, and it's an easy thing to have all domainnames centralised in one DNS pointing to one hosting. With a small PHP script you can redirect the domainname to the right site.

Or if you use a CMS, like the opensource Typo3, you can redirect based on the domainname to the site in the correct language.

Don't forget about the new .com.es, .net.es, .org.es, if you want a .es and don't have a Spanish company / trademark, these are easier to obtain.

Those new domains are not only easier to obtain, as long as you pay you can register them. There are no restrictions for .com.es.
