How to search for domain names?

Whenever I want to see if a domain is available, I always use the search forms provided by Web hosts or Network Solutions. That's great if I only want to check a dozen or so domains. What I'd like to know is if there is a way to batch search through thousands of domains all at once. I'd like to be able to throw everything into a text file and "hit the button" to search. Is there a way that it could be accomplished?

There's a PDF file kicking around on the web that might contain something useful. Do a search for "101 Essential Domain Name Resources" on Google ... it should show up.

There is a freebie called "Domain Name Analyzer" that will do what you are looking for.

FreeWho.com has one, however, I believe it has a 50-domain name limit.
