expired domain name

I have been tracking a domain name, which is just expiring.
Does anyone know how long it stays registered before it is released to be bought again, or what is the best way to go about getting this name as quickly as possible!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

Good question, but I am afraid the answer falls into the crystal ball department. It also depends on who the registrar is. If it is one of the biggies, then you could be looking at, oh, anytime in the next, um, well sometime. Unfortunately the only thing to do is keep checking every day until it suddenly becomes free and then nab it quick!

Thanks, i remember reading this post a few months ago but i couldnt find it again!
So it looks as though i will have to wait at least 60 days to find out whether it will be re-registered or not.
At least the .net is free and the co.uk which is becoming even more important since goto brought out the uk equivalent which provides a lot of the uk search engines.
The thing i hate though is the people that own the .coms dont even use them, i suppose that is a blessing in disguise too;)

I know what you mean, but then I own quite a few .coms that on the "get 'round to list". I guess it is the ones that never intend to do anything with them that upset the boat. Oh well...

Just for the record, the domain that I was eying in the thread Woz mentioned [webmasterworld.com] expired on 6th October 2000 and it still hasn't been released. It is owned by Netsol and currenty leads to a Netsol "Under Construction" page.

For the record, the one I was watching got renewed! <grumble>

I can be quite rewarding to keep after those domains in the phatom zone. Did you know that that is how WmW came about? Brett snagged the domain after it was not renewed. And here we all are today.

So keep checkin' on your domain, hope you get it.

I think I was inactive for too long, so my forum registration got canceled. Anyway, I signed up again using the same name.

Just started using a little program that lets you look up all the free 4 letter.coms etc
Anyone else got any nice tools for checking recently expired domain names or something similar?

From what I have heard, the last two big release of expired domains, were from domains that had expired early last summer up until July one. So if six months is the cut off, it could be awhile. Netsol is under huge pressure and legal action to begin releasing those domain names. If it is showing a Netsol page, contact them and ask the price (but wait as long as possible before telling them which domain - don't let them make an entry in the db, that there is intrest in the domain).

Funny you should say that, an awfull lot of domain names that actually link to netsol run out on the 1st of july too!
I wonder if this would be the reason for the release of the domains?..there are a lot of strange sites with hidden links to netsol :)

They released up to one million domains early last month - there was a mega raid on domains. I'm waiting until March 1 to do any real searching for expired domains.

just searched through every 3 letter domain..all taken, only 4 left 4 letter domains ending in uk.com
