Surely has been asked before?

sorry if this has been asked before but my unfortunate keyword search returned zillions of pages of - not quite what i'm looking for -.

there is a domain that i really want. here are the details:

Record created : 2001-11-26 00:06:46
Record last updated : 2003-11-28 04:47:41
Date of expiration : 2003-11-26 00:06:46
Status : REDEMPTIONPERIOD

the above section lists the domain owner. under this, there are 4 more sections listing "Person", the name, addy, created and last updated. the last 4 hold 4 different names (all from denmark) and the last updated dates range from 9/22/03 to 11/26/03.

first question: what's strange about the above? secondly: if i register at snapnames or another watcher/grabber site, is there a chance that i will be putting my desire for this domain on display, thereby making others interested? always a bit of paranoia with domain names :)

TIA!

Nothing strange about the first.
the second yes it will be known by some that it has been backordered but they wont know who backordered it.There was a domain that puts all domains backorered at snapnames and namewinner on a list.I am not sure whether they can still do this.

i don't have an 'owner edit' link on this thread, so another post..

i meant to add that i will be happy to provide a link to the whois page for this particular domain via sticky to anyone who requests. the full record looks so odd to me.

thanks

Hi,
I seem to have a similar problem.
Last year I registered a .com domain name with namesecure, paid for it and got my confirmation. It dropped a few days later, I don't know why.

I registered it again and paid at networksolutions.com and today I have another problem. It was in the pendingdelete status for two months when I forgot to renew.
Now, on the 10th of December, the whois record points to namezero.com saing that it is active until dec 10th, 2004.

Is there any chance that the domain might be free sooner (pointing out that with namesecure the domain was functional only for a week, even though it was listed to be valid for a year?)

Its not a catchy name, however, it is very useful to me.

A big thanks for any help.
JK

jkbajo123, it sounds as if your domain was dropped and registered on December 10, 2003. Namezero is a partner of Namewinner, so someone probably put a bid on the domain and it finally dropped December 10th.

Most of the time .com/.net drop within 6 days of being in PENDINGDELETE status, however, as your domain illustrates this is not always the case.

Its not a catchy name, however, it is very useful to me.

If you added a lot of back-links to this domain then this is one method that domain speculators find domains with traffic, so it might explain why your domain was picked up.
