I want to buy a domain which is currently listed as On-Hold (Redemption Period). Registrar is Networksolutions... :(

A whois lookup gives the following info:
Updated Date: 18-sep-2003
Expiration Date: 10-aug-2003

Does any body know if Networksolutions has standard redemption periods for all domains and if so how long this period is? How can i get this domain?

Y, It usually takes about 90 days from expiration to purge, in my experience.

I've had good luck with SnapNames, but there are other good back order services too.

Is it possible to get it without a back order service? Why use such a service - to be the first? If i use a back order service, can i still host the domain where i want or am i then bound to their hosting partners? Sorry for asking stupid questions but i never understood how this snapname thingies work in regards to hosting allthough i tried to undertstand it by reading about it here at WebmasterWorld. ;)

Yes, if it is purged, and no one gets it first.

Yep.

I can only speak from my experience with SnapNames, but the hosting is entirely up to you. I imagine other services would work the same way. I know that some do control the REGISTRAR you are registered with, though, but this wouldn't affect the hosting.

Thanks so far for that info bakedjake! I'll look at the available snap services tomorrow. However, i'm still curious if there's a standard redemption period at Netsol. Anybody?

The redemption period is 30 days, the name usually 'drops' five days later.

Yidaki, you can tell the exact time a dot com or dot net name will drop(within a hr)When the name goes into "pending delete" which is mostly(but not always)it will have an updated date. The name will release on the 6th day after that date at 2.00 o 'clock their time (I think they call it EST).i predict your name will drop on the 24th oct but you can only be sure when it goes into "pending delete "status
As for backordering, this name should drop before the WLS comes into effect so if you think you are the only one wanting the name I suggest you use namewinner.com who will get the name for you for $15 and yes you can use your own hosts. However if you will be in compeition for the name I suggest you use namewinner as well as pool.com
This may cost you more as it goes to an auction.I would not recommend you use snapnames (especially as your sole backorder agent) at the moment as they are hopeless at this point regardless of what you may be told.

Cheers
