For this vocal minority, resentment lingers at the very fact that the Internet is used for commercial purpose... We respectfully disagree with those who, in the name of technology purity, strive to hold the Internet back... It would be a sad irony that if in the interest of the status quo we stifle innovation.

Cute memo. Here's mine:

That cookie they added wasn't "innovation" - it was profit, and something only a monopoly could implement. (the one that lead to Overture...)

Verisign operates the service under the authority of a government body, imho, they should have gotten clearance to monetize before going ahead & doing so.

Hijack a web browser, like MS, if you want to be the internet's next "error page". Just don't excuse it with being "innovative" when there isn't anything "innovative" about being granted a government contract.

How about they offer a download, plugin or what not for IE if they really want to "help" users?

That's a great idea, and pretty much the reason MS got into it in the first place: own the browser, own the eyeballs.

I'm surprised Verisign didn't take Netscape (and the ODP) off of AOL's hands.
