hello, i have signed up with a hosting company and I am having troubles modifying my domain's dns entries at my registrar.

I want to use my registrar's default name servers instead of my hosting company's name servers because I am using a separate mail server.

My host told me that this is not possible (i must to use their name servers), but I doubt it. What dns records should i add at my domain registrar in order for this to work? Should I simply add an 'A' record pointing to the IP# of my host's?

Thanks, just want to confirm if my host is telling me the truth.

maraclara,

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]!

A DNS 'A' record pointing to the IP address should do it. Try accessing your site by IP address rather than by domain name. If it works by typing the IP address into your browser (e.g. type 'http://127.0.0.101/'), then you should be able to use the registrar's Nameservers.

Here's a link to a DNS debugging tutorial [rscott.org] if you need it.
