Buying a domain name for use with free Web space

Hi, I want to buy a domain name for use with the free Web space that I get with my Blueyonder broadband connection, and need some advice.

Do I just pick any Web company at random and buy a ".co.uk" domain name and ask them to point that to my free Web space, or are there some things that I should look out for?

I saw that easily.co.uk sell ".co.uk" domains for £10 for 2 years with "free redirection", which I guess means that I'll get everything I need for £10 for 2 years. I can't see any hidden costs. Can you? Am I overlooking some things?

Are there differences in the services provided by these companies? Will they force adverts on my site? They can't be making any money if they only get £5 per year and then are bombarded with requests for my Web site.

What happens if I then want to use some other free space? How do I change where the domain name points to? Will the Web company stuff me then? Can they expect more money from me for this work?

Do these Web companies generally take ownership of the domain name and then lock me into using their services? I read something about people taking their domain name to another service provider. What is the point of doing this?

Is there anything that I have missed out that I should be aware of?

Can you please recommend any companies?

Thanks,
May

Doing it that way you'll have to either deal with a cloaked redirect (which uses frames and will affect the PR of your subpages) or deal with:-

www.domain.co.uk

being resolved to:-

htttp://users.blueyonder.com/may_hem/index.html

or similar in the users URL bar.

Personally, I think you'd be better off with one of these £5 a month hosting companies. Some of them even offer a MYsql database and php.

There is no way you can buy a cheap domain name and have it pointed direct at your free webspace. The only to do that and use your free space is to buy the domain name from BlueYonder and pay a premium (and lose flexability).
