Hi everybody, sorry to start a new thread, there was a similar one but was old and subsequently locked.

I want to move my web space to another server so I can utilise php and MySQL. My domain is registered with Easily.co.uk and, apparently, I need to transfer the domain in order for things to work.

No worries there, but going through Easily's control panel, there is an option there to transfer the "Nominet Tag" to the new host. My new host e-mailed me and told me what to put in (eg. NAMEOFHOST) which I did.

Unfortunatly, I got a mail back from Easily a few hours later saying:

>Nominet have advised us that the recent TAG transfer that you attempted has failed due to the fact that the TAG you are attempting to use is barred. Please approach your new Isp to look into for you why this is occurring.

Now, although the new ISP is listed as a Nominet member, the word "barred" seems a bit worrying! I phoned the new ISP who were perplexed, and said they'd sort it out...but I haven't heard anything back from them yet. I'd rather not name the new ISP, only because I might have screwed up and I don't want to cast doubts on a supposedly genuine company.

So, question for anybody who's used this via Easily: Was I right to just put the NAMOFHOST in the box? Or do I need to put some code in too (eg. PGP:NAMEOFHOST). I phoned easily up but, to be honest, the bloke on the other end didn't sound too confident LOL.

Cheers for any advice :)

you were RIGHT, and your new host has "possibly" been playing games with the automaton, and therefore got a slap on the wrist from Nominet, or possibly hd the tag suspended by them.

The fact that someone is a member does NOT mean a domain name can be transferred to them...

look for another host (imo)

Precisely - Nominet tag holders can have their accounts frozen and/or suspended for a number of reasons with abuse of the automaton and failing to pay their Nominet bills on time being a couple of the most popular.

You didn't do anything wrong with your attempt to retag the domain, so I wouldn't be overly worried about that bit. More concerning is the new host being unable to receive the transfer and their failure to get back to you - even if only to tell you they'd made no progress and would be in touch again later - first impressions last and I'd certainly be wondering if this is the same level of service I'd continue to receive from them. Could be worth looking elsewhere.

Hi Shak and Ritch, thanks for the advice :)

I didn't realise that just because you're on the Nominet members list, you might not be "active" so to speak. Cheers for that Shak, I think Nominet ought to have some kind of up-to-date database, rather than just a static page, that people can search for such things - I'm sure I'm not the only person who's had this problem, and not just with company NAMEOFHOST. Fair dues to Nominet though, the girl I've been speaking to has been very helpful and patient throughout :)

This has been going on for a couple of days, after a couple of phone conversations with NAMEOFHOST, I finally mailed them and told them to forget it and I'll have a refund please. They mailed me back a few hours later saying that they had definately had their suspension lifted, but by then it was too late - I'd already gone with another host, as you guys sugested - and once bitten, twice shy as they say.

Besides, they said that yesterday, and I'm not making any more calls to Nominet to confirm that before I try and transfer the TAG again. My only worry now is trying to get back the £94 they took from my debit card. Fingers crossed eh? LOL.

Thanks again for the tips lads and, Ritch_B, one good thing, Easily were able to re-claim the TAG so it's back in my control panel :)

Easily are 1 of UKs most reputable companies, and pioneers of the cheap domain name with qualty service.

as for a refund, just call the bank/card company and explain the situation, they should NOT be charging your card before offering the service...

Good luck.
