I Need Some WhoIs Help

Any suggestions on how to get accurate WhoIs information?
Some WhoIs searches say this particular domain is free, and several different WhoIs searches say the domain is taken, however none of these sites will return any information on who owns it. No search engines have anything on the domain, and no site is online.

Where do you turn when you need this kind of information?

I go to domains.com and try and register a new name...if registered I click on the little magnifying glass, and it shows who owns it.

when in doubt, I toddle on over the whois.net or good 'ol networksolutions.com (NSI).

I don't register throught NSI but I find when I register a domain with another registrar and check immediately with NSI my new domain correctly comes up as unavailable.

Love 'em or hate 'em they do seem to have it together when a domain is unavailable; sometimes TOO together!

Even NIS was out to lunch on this domain. Your resource is the first one that actually had the info -- and the domain my client wants is owned by a reseller (I wonder, is this good news or bad news?)
