What do you think about registering multiple domain names and buliding a one page advert for my main site under these domain names? like ` FOR LOW COST WIDGETS VISIT
widget.com
we are the best because..
we charge this much..
you can do this or that here..

Is it worth the time money and effort? will it do any harm?
or can it only increase hits?
I am new so forgive my ignorance
Thanks for any input

Do you mean registering say six similar domains and pointing them all to one splash page?

No I mean registering 5 or 6 similar names but with a full page add for the main site ,I suppose I would need a bit more content than that though?

I'm still not sure if you mean the same copy on all pages. If you do mean that .... don't do it.

Content is king, make sure you have good keyword weighted copy, pay attention to your title and description ensuring each is different per domain.

Are you registering the other names to reserve them from others claiming them? You want to have as much as possible unique content on each site and some depth to each site.
As peewhy says content is king.

I would have a totally different page under each domain name, not taken from the main site, but content at a minimum, just a description of the main site and what it does with maybe a clickable banner type add in the centre directing to the main site. Is this a bad idea?

Sorry, I'm still confused:)

Okay, we've established that you will use all domains. It sounds like you want to create these sites purely and simply to link to a common site.

I would suggest you take each domain, create a different site with good content ... as I sait earlier - Content is king, make sure you have good keyword weighted copy, pay attention to your title and description ensuring each is different per domain.

By all means interlink them but your original idea isn't a good route.

You should be fine doing it this way. I would however work toward more depth on each site. Pick a theme, a selling point, anything to give more content.

Really it just to increase traffic to the main site ,sounds like it`s not the best route to take to ahceive this .
Think I will look at other options
Thanks for the help

I think that you are thinking that the mini sites will help promote your main site.

Personally, I would polish and hone each site, treating them no lesser than the main site ... buts that's only my opinion:)

My pleasure Haggis, but having suggested that, if you have a full blown e-commerce package on your main site ... link to that as opposed to redeveloping it on each;)
