I have a small problem I am now investigating and would like to know whether there are any sites out there that track the domains history (especially in this case for non-live domains).

A bit like a dog I need to know the domains previous owners, when they owned it to and from etc.

Whois only gives current data, archive.org only works for live domains.

I need to know this as I am sure I own a domain that does not seem to be owned by me anymore but as I have quite a few I need to check.

I am checking my own purchse records but was hoping there is an online service for this?

Will be difficult. You could try AllTheWeb to find still existing links and contacting the webmaster(s) of page(s) with those link(s). They might be able to help you.

You can find about domain in archive.org even if domain is not active or been dropped.

There is at least two companies that provide WHOWAS service. Do some searching I'm sure you will find it. They do change for the service though.

Sometimes you can find the previous owners contact address by searching the domain name on Alexa.
