I've been monitoring an important domain via snap names and manually (which seems to have generated better results). The domain was in the middle of its redemption period, so I fully expected to have to wait another 10 or so days before purchase.

The regstrar also had it marked as "REDEMPTION PERIOD" for a couple of weeks, until last Friday, when it was suddenly available for sale.

I immediately purchased it, and received my receipt.

However, the domain has still not been registered (my account panel with the registrar says "pending registration").

Immediately after purchase, the domain was no longer available, and the charge was put on my credit card, but it still hasn't been registered.

I'm going to call them and investigate, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Rintrah,

I just had this happen to me. Both Snap and my registrar (who I am very pleased with) showed a domain on pending delete that apparently become available early. So I registered it and my credit card was charged but soon after an e-mail arrived stating that purchase was not confirmed. They credited my account a few days later. I later got the name thru Snap (finally a win!). I don't know the technical explanation but when it comes to domain names I've learned that you can't always get what you want!

Good luck!

Great. Back to the old "sit, wait, and hope"

How effective is SnapNames anyway? This will be my first time using them.

Thanks for the response!

Rintrah,

I have been using Snap for about a year but only a handful of the names monitored have ever got to pending delete.
They will verbally tell you (at least they have with me several times) that their success rate is 70%. But they are only around 25% with me. I would suggest that in addition to your SnapBack registration, you place a bid with NameWinner. According to all reports, Snap and Dotster are #1 and #2. I'm sure others online could tell you alot more than I can about capturing domains. I've watched Buydomains win several names I'm monitoring because he got to the SnapBack registration before me, but then even when I've had the SnapBack registration over him he still wins it with another registrar. Again, good luck!
