Branded (what does that mean?)
Also, When i register a domain, I dont actually own it, can i still sell it? people you see selling domains, they dont OWN them, right?
I would just like it if anyone could help me out.
Thanks
email me if you want.
'Branded domains' are domains that are usually unique names you want to use for your company. The largest 'brand' names in the U.S. include Xerox, Nike, Kodak, etc.
This is opposed to 'Descriptive' domains, which are often used with your primary keywords in it. Some beleive that this helps somewhat with better positioning in Google, but if you come up with a great 'Brand' domain (and company) name, you are probably better off.
A Brand domain also provides more flexibility for your company. If you have keyword1.com and later decide you want to expand into something else, you have a targeted domain that makes little sense to prospective buyers on the rest of your products.
On the ownership issue, this is still being played out in the courts, but essentially, you DO own your domain for the period that the domain is registered in your (or your company's) name, and is good until the expiration date. This can of course be renewed for any extended period of time, and as long as you don't select a trademarked name, you will be able to register it, and sell it at any time while the registration is current.
Hope this helps.
