Nominent says come back in 6 months [theregister.co.uk]

Looks like we are going to have to wait a while longer for the de-tagged domains :(

Craig,

I read this article to mean the Nominet wait listed system will not be in place in the next six months, but they are still releasing the detagged domains anyway.

I don't think that the Nominet WLS will ever happen. The whole reason for contemplating the introduction of a WLS was to alleviate the problem of the heavy whois and automaton usage from those wicked dropcatching services! :)

Now that the WLS is on ice for the next 6 months at least, if Nominet's statement that they want to clear the bulk of the detagged backlog by the end if this year is true, then most of the frenetic speculative activity and abuse of the automaton will be over by the end of this year.

Plus with the new measures coming into force tomorrow, speculative registrations and whois usage will all be severely curtailed so that the abuse should be a thing of the past.
