If domain names i am trying to register are taken in the .com or .co.uk variety, is it ok to register and use the .net version of the same name?

thanks,

Hunter

Sure. It really depends on the name of course, but if it fits what you want and you do not mislead visitors that you are the same company that owns the other domains/sites and provided there is not some type of trademark on the name, you really have nothing holding you back.

providing you arent competing with them or breaking ant trademarks etc, then it's ok.

If you are trying to register for offline advertising it is a bad idea. People automatically type in .com at the end of addresses they remember (or .co.uk for UK). If you are using it for online advertising only and are not infringing trademarks or UK special terms (such as national, English or England for example) then you should be fine.

I will be competing with them in a way, selling the same product (hotel bookings in a specific area of UK)
i wanted to use it strictly for the keywords in the domain, no offline advertising etc.
hotel keyword domains are being snapped up like hot cakes and there is one particular keyword domain i want, but onl the .net is available now. I dont know whether to register and use it or not.
