My websites homepage is listed in the ODP. My site branches off into various other categories. I have been to read the ODB TOS for listing URL's but they dont specify yes or no on this point.
Say for example I has www.mysite.com listed could I also add www.mysite.com/subsite , the subsite has it's own comtent and would apear in a totaly different category. from the homepage. It this alowed and if so is it advisable???

You can do it, and there should be no problem.

I edit a few DMOZ categories and I'd say about a 20% of the sites in my cats are deeplinked in this way.

Do a DMOZ search for microsoft.com and see how many entries they have across a shedload of categories.

If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for the rest of us.

A direct answer is "yes".

Multiple listings "deeplinking" (anything beyond your main page) is allowed provide there is adequate content to justify the page or section in the new topical category and the diversity of the content is such that the mainpage can not directly reflect the inclusion in the categories.

DMOZ in first and foremost a research site via topics, or regions through information.

It make little sense placing a listing in a category (that is appropriate) but making the user click 20 times before getting to the precise info which corresponse to the category.

That being said, the reverse is also true, if the main page will allow direct or almost immediate access to this info the main page should suffice.

WMW as example - the individual forums are immediately accessible to the user therefore the main page would suffice, however, the topics that this complete forum could be listed beyond just "forums" such as web design, web promotion, SEO and so on, are many.

Not always so. Some of the cat's I handle do not allow deep linking regardless of content.

Well it could lead to lots of pages.
As it happens I don't argee with the rule in view of the cats involved but I have stuck to the rule.

Of course I could change the rule :)

The rule stops relevant content being listed yet it does stop 100's of submissions

Any chance this is posted someplace for public viewing? I don't recall it in the OPD guidelines.

It would seem to be appropriate information to post, so not to waste people's time. (editors and submitter alike?)

Click on cat "Description"
These cat rules are also seen when you try and submit a url:

Listings for (PRODUCT/SERVICE)which reside on ( BROKERS/AGENCY) sites will not be accepted. Also duplicate listings or different urls from the same company or (PRODUCT/SERVICE) will not be accepted. The original submission will be the one used unless notified otherwise.

Sorry, hurlimann I fail to see the relevance to my comments below.

My example didn't imply "amazon" could deeplink all of it's products neither.

Am I missing somrething...?

I was commenting on your text below.
In other words some cats would not allow a listing even if they meet this:
>Multiple listings "deeplinking" (anything beyond >your main page) is allowed provide there is >adequate content to justify the page or section >in the new topical category and the diversity of >the content is such that the mainpage can not >directly reflect the inclusion in the categories.
