Yahoo - Included promptly, title/description edited and now missing my main keyphrase, how to proceed to get it changed?
NBCi - listed immediately and #1 in membersubmitted sites for keyphrase. How can I get the site reviewed. Should I/ can I push this?
Open Directory (dmoz) - submitted, 4 weeks no response, they state that after three weeks you can submit agian so I did, no response, what else can I do?
Looksmart - not yet submitted, I can afford the $79 (not the express) but even though the site is .com and targets worldwide audience it could be regarded as a more local site (not US). What is the advantage of submitting to Looksmart and how can a make certain it's not rejected by looksmart.com (no response to my email with query about submission either)
Thanks in advance
Cees
No. Leave it alone. Click popularity will bring it to review attention.

Not much. I'd wait one more 3-week period then try again. Document each submittal date. After that, email a polite request to the editor of that category. Odds are it's either very busy/competitive or the volunteer editor is slow to come to work (or both).

As for Nbci, I have never had success asking them for a review and getting it into the main directory unless it has a high click through count. Often the editors wait til a site has been clicked on a lot before they include it in the main directory. I would make a couple searches a day, click on your listing, have your friends/fellow employees do the same and let it amass clicks from you and the general public (I wouldn't inflate your own clicks more than 1 or 2 a day).
Yahoo - typical situation you are facing there. They are brutal on editing descriptions done to nothing (sounds like a thread title). You pretty much need the name of your site to be your main keyword to do well there (that will get your keyword in the title and get a big boost if you are not competing with categories in the search results). Usually they won't change your description unless there is an error and even then they are extremely slow.
LookSmart - Worth it for the MSN traffic and future relationships with SEs. LookSmart is on the move and has and is forming several strategic relationships. Again, the only insurance for success is the title of your site being your keyword. LookSmart editors are much more generous than Yahoo and you have a better chance of keywords in the description. They will edit any description you give them though. Your submitted description is just a guideline for the editors.
ODP - Wait maybe one more week and then resubmit. Some editors are either inactive or it just takes them a long time to get to their edit box. The last thing you want at ODP is to be labeled a spammer, that literally follows you around. Only submit to one category at a time and follow the guidelines closely.
Good luck!
I thought about the click through popularity with NBCi and to do exactly what you suggest (getting friends and so to click). What about spamming here, do they track ip-numbers etc. Have to be careful here or not?
The Yahoo listing was a bit silly. The website name = domain name = main keyphrase but of course it's not equal to "official business name". On the website I stressed too much that this "website=domain name" was the official site of "business name".
I'll send them a friendly request to change it and tell them I stuffed up and that we're really called "website name". Probably all I can do.
Thanks, This is another example of what a fantastic resource this forum is. One day I'll know enough to return the favor
If you have high rank in member-submitted I wouldn't risk it. It never hurts to have 'family & friends' know about an NBCi site, in the Snap days they used to encourage you to spread the word (to build their traffic). Just tell your Mom not to sit there and click for an hour.
Of course if she wants to, I have a few sites myself that could withstand some click throughs. :)
1.Allow up to 3 weeks before contacting editors after submitting. Some categories are not maintained as regularly as others.
2.After that time, go to the category you submitted your site for. At the bottom of the category, ther should be a list showing the current editor/s of that category. If there are no editor/s, go up one category level and find the editor/s there. Continue to go up one level at a time if you still see no listed editors, finding the lowest category possible where an editor is listed.
3.Contact one of the listed editors: click on the editor's name and use the feedback link provided in the editor's profile page. When contacting, you should include the following information:
- Your name, your site's name, and your site URL
- When you submitted the site
- Name any other editors you contacted (if this is not your first contact)
- What you submitted as a description
- The specific category you submitted to (e.g.: Computers/Internet/WWW/Website_Promotion/Software_Programs/)
4.Allow up to one week for a response. Keep in mind that the editor you are contacting is a volunteer, and is not required to be online or editing at any given time. They could possibly be on vacation, having computer problems, etc.
5.If you receive no response after one week, contact another editor in the category if there is one, or move up a few category levels and make contact with a higher level editor. If necessary, continue to do this until you reach the top-level category. With each contact, always give the information asked for in #3 above.
