DMOZ Editor visited, no listing, should I worry?

I can see from my server logs that a DMOZ editor visited my site last night based on my submission. Entry looked like this (important stuff replaced):

http://dmoz.org/editors/editunrev.cgi?site=999999&cat=Shopping/Whatever/Category&chainsaw=1

My site is not listed in DMOZ this morning and the category date does not show updated.

Should I be worried? Has he rejected me or does DMOZ itself only update every so often?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

You can't use the search engine for that, look at the category URL, and press F5 (windows) if your site isn't listed there within 48 hours, after the review, you will probably not be in ODP this time.

It might also be that the editor found that your site was more approptiate in another category and sent it there instead, then it will be review once more.

It could be one of several things.

Being optimistic, they may have decided that your site belongs in a different category. If so, the site is now waiting the editor for that cat to take a look. That may takes weeks, depending on how busy the editor is.

Or being even more optimistic, they may have published you in a cat/sub-cat you didn't expect.

The index updates infrequently so you won't find yourself with a search. But the directory updates (usually) instantly so you might be pleasantly surprised if you look around the area you expected a listing in.

They have a tendency to put businesses into a geo-region -- check if you are in something like:

your-country/your-region/your-town/businesses

I doubt we would be put into a different category. We sell cat furniture and there is a specific cat furniture category.

Would it be death to email the editor?

DMOZ editors don't always think the way you might about the natural category for a site.

If you do a DMOZ search for "furniture" it turns up 31 possible categories for you. Anything from:

Arts : Design : Furniture

to:

Regional : Europe : United Kingdom : Business and Economy : Shopping : Home and Garden : Furniture

And yes, it isn't death -- just be polite.

Thank you, that is an excellent resource! I will give it a few days.

Emailing the editor did not equal death, rather success!!!

An editor reviewed our site and in this last update, the changes we requested had been added.

This editor was really great.

Way to go DMOZ!

(: Congradulations, it is often people have mixxed fealings about e-mailing editors. Sometimes the editors don't like the e-mail other times they know its part of their job.

"I doubt we would be put into a different category. We sell cat furniture and there is a specific cat furniture category."

If you were not giving people the ability to purchase online and you submitted to a shopping channel you might get moved to a regional category.

Hope this helps.
