I launched my site late September, I have been accepted in the Looksmart and Yahoo directory. It has now been over 4 weeks since I submitted to the ODP. I know I should be patient (its not one of my better qualities). Before I resubmit is it possible for someone to see if I have been reviewed and turned down. This waiting is killing me. If I am out of line to ask just let me know.

Welcome to the forums David! I am glad to hear you got into Yahoo and Looksmart. That is a "feet" in itself.

Usually, however, we do not allow people to drop urls in the posts. It keeps it fair for everyone, and it prevents people spamming the forums.

I know there are some specialists in ODP lurking around here that might be able to help you. In my personal experience, I have always had a good working relationship with one of my ODP editors, but I know that is not the case with everyone.

It has been four weeks, so I would write a nice email to the editor asking if there is something with your site that is not appropiate for the category. Make it an email asking for help. Don't tell them you want to wring their necks and this that and the other, but a polite email requesting assistance, in my mind, wouldn't be offensive and would probably get you some help.

Anyone else have any more thoughts on this?

Yeah. I thought it might be stuck in a long queue of unreviewed. It was.

It has now been reviewed, although you may not see it for a few days due to the updating delay.

Laisha, are there any docs/faqs present at dmoz on just such an occurrence? Is there a company line on what someone should do with a stale submission? Seems like that question keeps coming up.

Unfortunately, there are no FAQs or docs that cover this because there is no one solution. There are literally thousands of editors, and each one handles his or her category differently.

There are also backlogged pockets all over the directory. While you may submit to a category which is run through every day, you may just as easily submit to a category which has a 5-month backlog.

My best suggestion would be to email the editor of the category after 4 weeks if you don't see any change. If you get no response after a few days, email an editor from the category above. Repeat as necessary.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. :(

Fortunately, many ODP editors roam the internet and these kinds of boards, so when they're made aware of a problem, often a solution just happens.

You all might consider applying to be editors... :)

Ok thanks. I guess there is something to suggest for the editors forum (bet it has been already).
