Well, I know my "bit" has changed

The regional part of mine has been broken down, with a site of mine going from a PR4 category down to a PR1...not good I imagine!

My site was accepted by ODP about two weeks ago, and I've been waiting for it to appear in the dmoz directory. Today it's there, and the footer has updated frm April 28th to May 16thy. Yippee!

Hmmm, I was under the impression when an editor makes an edit, it goes live immediatly. Is this no longer the case?

Yes, it is still the case. I made an edit yesterday, went up straight away.

What happened with me after my site was added was that there was a two-week period during which the site was visible if I drilled down through the categories to the one it is in, but it only appeared in response to a directory search when the directory was updated yesterday.

I think what happened in backus' case was that his update coincided with yesterday's directory update. Maybe if his change had been made today it wouldn't have appeared in the directory search results for another three weeks or so?

backus, ive noticed that since my site in question has went one level deeper, the links next to it are now defunct in both google and dmoz results....ie instead of being under business_economy...its one deeper.

Any idea when this sort of thing will correct itself in DMOZ? :)

Errr..... nope. I'm just a lowly bottom editor, editing my Plastic Surgery section...

What exactly does a 'bottom editor' do? Ah, wait. Plastic surgery - it all makes sense now! :-)

My experience matches that of Baldrix.

A site I submitted was accepted on May 1. From May 1 through May 15, I could find it by drilling down in the DMOZ cats, but if I searched directly from the DMOZ main page I couldn't find the site at all. The SERP returned a "not found" response when searching on the company name. (All during this time, the footer said "Database last compiled April 28....")

Then, yesterday, the footer changed, and I could find the site on a search from the main page.

I'm seeing new sites in the ODP search db that were not there two days ago.

Does ODP randomize their databases or are different ones available by specific regions? Im in california I see new results. ;)

I am listed on ODP in the Open Directory Catagories, but not in the Open Directory Site.
When I type in my search words, only one (one of my competitors) sites is listed as an Open Directory Site, just above that is the Open Directory Catagories with a regional link which lists several including mine.
How do I get to be listed as an Open Directory Site?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Linda

Sounds like you have to wait for it to update, unless you've been listed for a long time then that may not be the answer. ;)

Brett is right. However, yesterday something a little strange seemed to happen. There were a ton of changes to my listings without me doing anything. These were different website listings from different categories.

Just made another edit today, went straight up.

On the public side? I thought it was immediate too, but about 6 months ago, I found I was incorrect. While new listings showed in editor mode, if I went to the public side, lo, they did not.

Laisha,
I posted a question on the board...a few posts up about what is the difference between being listed in the open directory catagory and in the open directory site...and how to I become listed in the open directory site (i am already listed in the catagory section along with several others) but the site section only shows one listing (a competitor)
Thanks, Linda

Sorry to ask the obvious, but did you try reloading the page? You could have been looking at an old cached version.
