ODP accepted my site, now what (time-wise)?

When will I start to see the benefit?

I finally got my site into ODP, thanks to some excellent communication with the category editor, who was prepared to listen (see, it does happen!). I see my site in the category listing when I access it directly.

Now I imagine I have to wait. First to get into the ODP directory itself so that it is picked up by searches. I see the last update was 28th April, so hopefully another one quite soon?

Then I need to get the ODP listing picked up by Google to benefit from any enhancements in ranking there, so at least a month to wait until the next googlebot sweep, then another wait until the Google update from that. Sounds to me like around the end of June. Sound about right?

Congratulations!!

The timing sounds about right.

Then there are a dozen or more other directories that take a feed from ODP. They'll update sometime in the next few days to months, but they are seldom that important, unless their specialist niche matches yours.

It's been claimed that submitting the ODP URL to Google can speed things up. I don't know about that myself, though it is hard to see how it could do any harm.

While you are waiting, try to get yourself into Yahoo's directory -- that's at least as important as ODP.

Thanks for that. We are already in Yahoo - paid the 'one-time' before they got greedy! What is the ODP URL that I would submit to Google? I don't quite see what that would be.

It's not my bit of advice, so I've no idea if it makes any difference.....But you navigate to your entry on the ODP, and then submit the URL in the address bar.
